Lawyer Referral Services
If you are a victim of abuse, you may want to ask the Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service whether or not they screen for lawyers who are experienced in handling domestic violence cases. For a suggested list of questions to ask regarding the lawyer’s fees and experience when interviewing an attorney, go to our Choosing and Working with a Lawyer page.

The West Virginia Lawyer Referral Service
The West Virginia Lawyer Referral Service is provided by the West Virginia State Bar to assist the public in locating lawyers who are currently taking referrals in specific areas of law. Individuals can search for a lawyer by location and practice area. The initial consultation with the lawyer is no more than $25 for the first 30 minutes. Also, through the website eligible individuals can create an online account to submit a question and receive a response regarding a civil legal issue. The West Virginia State Bar also operates a weekly call-in service where volunteer lawyers take calls from the public and offer suggestions and guidance: (800) 642-3617.
