LSEM does not handle criminal matters. Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM) provides free legal advice and representation to low income individuals. LAWM does not handle criminal matters, civil matters only. Types of cases LAWM often handle, but not all, include: family law, housing, public benefits, consumer matters, tax, education, and individual rights. LAWM’s Grand Rapids office serves Kent, Ionia, Mecosta, and Montcalm Counties.

The Legal Assistance Center (LAC) provides legal assistance to individuals who are in need of legal assistance. LAC does not provide legal advice or legal representation. LAC provides legal information, forms, guidance, and resources to solve legal problems and learn about the court process. The Legal Assistance Center serves Grand Rapids County and Western Michigan.

Legal Services of Northern Michigan (Traverse City Office)
Legal Services of Northern Michigan provides civil legal services to low income people and/or people who are 60 years of age or older. Legal representation can be obtained in civil law areas such as: domestic relations; public benefits and administrative; housing; consumer; healthcare; Elder law, and school problems. These services include: basic discussion of client rights; counseling; preparation of letters, documents, deeds, and pleadings; negotiations; administrative hearings; trials, and in some cases appeals, and community legal education and presentations. Legal Services of Northern Michigan does not provide service for criminal cases, traffic tickets or “fee-generating” cases. Michigan Indian Legal Services (Main Office)
Michigan Indian Legal Services (MILS) provides legal services to low income Indian individuals and tribes. MILS also provides assistance to tribal governments and helps to preserve Indian families.
